The Steyns family moved its industrial activities to Tongeren in 1907. The company had its largest workforce in the 1950s when it employed 250 people. In December 1999, the shoe factory, which had seen its number of employees fall to about eighty people, was sold by Georges Steyns, grandson of the founder. Through a management buy-out Sylvain Gielen, together with two investment groups, the West-Flemish Trustcapital Partners and LRM, the Limburg Reconversion Company, acquired the factory

In 2009, the company had more than sixty employees and about 100,000 pairs of shoes were produced per year. Shoe manufacturer Ambiorix from Tongeren has held the title of Royal Warrant Holder of Belgium since 15 November 2009.

Through the entrepreneurial spirit of the Belgian-British weaving machine builder William Cockerill, Verviers grew into a flourishing industrial pole in the nineteenth century. It is therefore not surprising that Limburger Louis Steyns went to the textile city of Liège in 1895 to start a shoe factory. Due to persistent labour commotion, he moved his company to Tongeren twelve years later. There it grew into one of the most prestigious shoe manufacturers in the country, but in the run-up to the turn of the millennium it went downhill.

In 2007, the negative spiral was broken. The company was taken over by the family group Vavedin from Sint-Truiden, which brought a breath of fresh air to the buildings on prinsenweg.

The daily management came into the hands of the now 54-year-old Peter Vavedin. The new CEO literally and figuratively took the dust off the image. In the logo, the image of Eburonen leader Ambiorix was replaced by a circled and stylized X, one leg of which has the shape of a sword.

He also teamed up with Olympic champion Fred Deburghgraeve, film director and TV figure Erik Van Looy and designer Tim Van Steenbergen.
